On December 20th Appointed-Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the United States Varuzhan Nersesyan met with Honorable Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the Organization of American States.

Ambassador Nersesyan highlighted the importance of Armenia’s involvement in the organization (observer status) as a platform for dialogue between Armenia and the member states. The Ambassador also underlined the Secretary General’s role in enhancing relations between Armenia and the organization.

Luis Almagro congratulated Ambassador Nersesyan on his recent appointment and expressed hope that the cooperation with Armenia will be continuous. He regretted not being able to attend this year’s Francophonie Summit in Armenia, but reaffirmed his intention to visit Armenia during the next year.

The interlocutors also touched upon the democratic reforms in Armenia and the regional developments, including the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict and the issues faced by religious minorities and Armenian communities in Syria.
